"Over the last decade, the empirical evidence for the existence of the worldview sociologists now call 'Christian nationalism' has mounted. Using various methodologies from different datasets over time, dozens of rigorous scientific studies have shown a fairly consistent picture: that about one-third of Americans—" (continued in /2)

"Each time we’ve released a new PRRI study, despite the transparent methodology and consistent findings over time, conservative white evangelical apologists predictably object that the term 'Christian nationalism' is a term invented by religiously hostile academics to malign Christians. PRRI’s most recent findings should put an end to those protestations."

"A majority of Republicans (53%) view Christian nationalism favorably, compared with 22% of independents and only 10% of Democrats. While support among independents and Democrats has remained relatively stable since 2022, Republicans are increasingly embracing the term, with favorable views rising a remarkable 17 points, from 36% to 53%."

@wdlindsy

I'm not surprised at the republican figure, but who are these 1 in 10 Christian Nationalist democrats?

@wdlindsy

A four colour chart could have picked 4 colours that were clearly distinguishable from all the others but chose not to. This happens so often. And what about different line patterns as well for the colour blind.

It's like chart makers never look at how their charts look on different screens: colours too close in hue, tone and saturation, and keys with tiny samples make them hard to read even for people with excellent vision.

With all the graphic design grads around these days, why does this keep happening?

@hamishb @wdlindsy

I did not find the colours on the chart itself as hard to differentiate as the colours on the legend next to each group. Then I saw there was a pattern with the group listings on the legend, top to bottom.matching the groups on the chart itself. But the differences should be quickly apparent not require deep analyses to tell them apart.

@the5thColumnist I hadn't noticed the chart issues, honestly, but I see your point. It would have been possible to choose very distinct colors.
