I tried #obsidian for the first time. There's a lot about it that I don't understand, and it's a #notetaking app. Does all that complication help people?

It reminds me of #logseq in that it seems to have a steep learning curve, and I don't know if it's worth it.

@passthejoe Many people try to make Obsidian into some kind of life operating system. It’s a notes app.

Open a page and start writing. Use the built in search or the Omnisearch plug-in to find stuff. It works very well without folder structures, tags or links.

That’s it. If you want to do smarter things feel free to delve deeper but in essence, just start writing.

@passthejoe If you use it in the most simple way, it’s a markdown editor with some extra magic. For me, I started using it because it was the only one that would hyperlink between text files. Don’t do too much with it at first.
@passthejoe It doesn’t have a steep learning curve.

@passthejoe There's no learning curve to Obsidian if you choose not to learn anything. Just write. Then link notes if you want to.

Consider this analogy:

There are so many shows on Netflix, I can't possibly watch them all.

--> So don't! Just watch (or use) what you want to.

@passthejoe it's fine to use it as a simple markdown editor to begin with, and only add bells and whistle when you really think you're missing something.

@passthejoe What they said! :-)

So true. Just have fun with it. Output is in MD, so you own the output. It can go with you anywhere, if at a later date you use something else. Don't have to do sync.
