Moving on from Kobe, day 17 of my first Japan trip in 2006 was mostly spent exploring Himeji Castle. Thankfully, the rain had stopped for the day. The scenery and the cherry blossoms were glorious.

I like your report of the Japan trip. In the back of my brain i check if I know these places and when I have visited them.
My experience was spread over 3 holidays with my family and 25+ business trips where I used the week-end for sightseeing an nature.
A had been to Himeji castle before the big renovation 2010-15, too. Very narrow steps up to the top floor. a masterpiece of building with wood.
After the renovation I haven´t been there.
