I would like to write a letter to my newly elected city council rep, about him not supporting a plan for center lane dedicated buses.

I keep reading news articles in which he says the most car centric claptrap.

> The plan would increase congestion.

Not for the busses, and the people who ride them.

But between my lack of language skills, and my doomer personality telling me it's not going to make any difference, I know I'll never get around to writing that.

The best I can do is call their office and whine at whoever has the bad luck of answering the phone.

@my_roxbury Calling is actually far more effective than writing! Invested effort is signal of how much you care, and effort of calling is seen as higher. I write about this at length here: https://letschangecambridge.us/articles/best-way-to-pressure-elected-officials/

It's true that you can't convey complex arguments over the phone, but the reality is that logic mostly has nothing to do with outcomes. This is just about who really matters politically, and so political pressure, not logic, is how you solve it.

The best way to pressure elected officials

Do what you can, and keep in mind that the more visible work it takes, the more impact you’ll have.
