First PoC and first woman to go around another world.

Don't stop talking about this point.

It's important.

@CosmicRami i, for one, am going to celebrate and bask in their triumphant achievement. Humans, as @blogdiva might say, are punk af. Forget the orange menace for a day, love the heroes in orange for a bit.
@CosmicRami Victor Glover and Christina Koch. their names are important too
@CosmicRami It's such a shame ppl are still thinking in colors and genders. Who cares? They are just humans.
@Disturbed90 @CosmicRami that's dangerously close to "I don't see color". take it from a guy who used to think himself that that was a valid stance.
@Disturbed90 @CosmicRami It would be nice to not have to think about it, but if we don't, we'll just forget about not seeing any black people or women, and instead only cishet white dudes everywhere. Not acknowledging people of color and not-male people of any kind is extremely dangerous, as it will erase them from the public, as they were before.
Our world is racist and sexist, so we must push every form of breakup in the status quo and celebrate it until it's normalized.
@CosmicRami This gives โ€œrebel allianceโ€ vibes while ICE stormtroopers give โ€œgalactic empireโ€ vibes

@CosmicRami

FWIW the orange suits are known colloquially as "pumpkin suits".

These ones are a modified version of the Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES), called the Orion Crew Survival System (OCSS).

I didn't even think about it when I saw that picture, a normal portrait of members of a normal space crew. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ But of course, historical!

@Mabande

@CosmicRami Good for her! Finally!

Too bad the other one's the dipshit who pulled the "nO aThEiStS iN sPaCe"  horseshit. ๐Ÿ™„

Quoted by the "lovely" people at Focus on the Family, even. Gross. ๐Ÿคฎ

@CosmicRami Also the whole project was an example of international collaboration to my understanding.

@CosmicRami

What's that coconut-looking thing she's holding?

@MegaMichelle @CosmicRami Looks like a helmet.
@Ashmire @MegaMichelle @CosmicRami When they emerged from Integrity, the awaiting naval team on the "porch" inflatable platform, fitted them with safety gear for being winched to/traveling in the chopper. This included the helmet she is holding in the pic.
In the NASA stream, after touchdown you can see Glover remove his when he is seated in the same position as he is seen in this pic.
@MegaMichelle looks to me like a vented helmet. @CosmicRami
@MegaMichelle @CosmicRami
It's the helmet they put on for the helicopter ride.
@CosmicRami I'm more impressed with the Canadian, who I notice was missing from the TV coverage of the crew's return to Earth on SBS news.
@CosmicRami @rpmik What's sad is that we had to wait until 2026 for it to happen.

@CosmicRami
No. It's not important. We're in the 21st century, being black or a woman is no longer a handicap in the West (greetings, Mr. Obama). Glover and Koch are consummate professionals with a wealth of experience, not tokens.

The issue, if anything, is that Trump's cancellation of diversity programs might mean they end up being the last ones.

@CosmicRami I wish I lived in a world where this wasn't something out of the ordinary.
@CosmicRami I wondered what Proof-of-Concept you mean ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ silly me ๐Ÿซฃ
@CosmicRami Best part of the whole mission, IMHO.

Look at these icons. Opening the door for many others!
@CosmicRami Wait until the first Chinese Taikonauts land and walk on the Moon.
