Y'all might have heard about the "Schumer article" in which he states that his operational function at his "AI" company has been replaced by, well, "AI"... and it resonated with many people who fear that their jobs might be taken by "AI" as well, judging by the huge layoffs in tech that are starting in other industries.
To be honest, I see that coming as well, unless the AI bubble bops and buries the whole burning dumpster fire under the ocean of "AI"-bros tears, and I worry, but not for the reason that Schumer describes.
The large issue is that our jobs aren't being replaced because of the quality of "AI-workers" output, but because of the still ongoing bro-hype-train which promises quick profits with next-to-zero expenses. The result of this will be, in addition to people loosing their source of income of course, #enshittification across entire industries with uncreative, stagnant and outright dangerous solutions to sometimes serious problems that need solving, on top of a massively worse user experience for everyone who has to work with "AI" products that are being pushed everywhere right now.
Every job that is being replaced by "AI" is degrading the quality of the work done immensely and is building technical and societal debt that soon many of us will have to balance out, while also experiencing the aftermath of that degradation, making our lives harder.
Yes, I hate AI. Specifically, I'm talking about LLM's and agentic "AI". Not because of the technology itself, I personally think it has quite some potential, but the way this still very young technology is being sold as a do-all solution that can 1:1 replace human workers without compromises.
The only ones benefiting are the large "AI" companies scamming other industries and forcing them into dangerous one-sided dependencies that are hard to get out of again while resting on a very instable "bubble" themselves. In the end when this bubble pops (and this is definitely a "when" not an "if"), only some investors and "bro's" will get out of it with truly massive profits that they are gonna use to make everyone else suffer for their pleasure, as current experience has shown, and meanwhile every other branch of industry will perform worse and worse across the board.
I don't want to settle for mediocre products, services and decisions made by machines that only regurgitate old and flawed solutions that exist today.
I want to see further progress in the future. Progress that leads to a better life for all of us instead of dead machines producing quick money for some "bro's".
The current dream of "AGI" is fuelled by billionaires wanting to fill their pockets, and I will never trust machines built on the premise of dividing this world even further for the benefit of the most powerful.
Whether enough people care enough to shut this down before it leads us into a catastrophe still remains to be seen...
