Chiropractic Awareness Week is 13-19 April this year.

Make yourself aware that Chiropractic is actually quackery. You do not need a "chiropractor" for anything. This is because they are not actual specialists who treat musculoskeletal pain, and do not subscribe to scientific methods or mainstream medicine at all.

They have done an excellent job spreading misinformation about what they actually are and what they do, peddling themselves as legitimate medical practitioners. They are no better than a massage therapist, and cost way more.

You need a massage therapist, or an orthopedic doctor. Chiropractors are NOT orthopedic doctors. They MAY be doctors (depending on where you live), but their methods are not rooted in science, but quackery.

So! Chiropractic originally claimed that "subluxations" that you could not see were blocking nerve energy. Basically a fancy way of saying: "your joints are out of whack and it's blocking the flow of your nerve energy." Chi but more technobabble.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together could see this was nonsense.

So now they just go with "spinal manipulation"... glorified massage. Which does help with pain! But you can get the same benefit from a massage therapist.

The bigger issue is that they also claim that "spinal manipulation" can treat asthma, ear infections, improve the immune system, etc., which are obvious bullshit. Like it doesn't even sound like it'd work. Like "not even wrong" territory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_even_wrong . As you'd expect, there is zero evidence chiropractic is effective for any other conditions, and no better than a massage therapist or OTC pain meds for most types of muscular pain.

@Elizafox @mos_8502 Okay but what if I wanna pay someone to just run a steamroller over me

(to be clear this is a joke, fuck chiropractors)

@CursedSilicon @mos_8502 Honestly, I would love this.
@CursedSilicon @mos_8502 It would probably create more problems than it solves but god damn it is tempting.
@Elizafox @mos_8502 Chiropractors have ruined "I want to give someone $50 to turn me into bubble wrap"
@Elizafox @CursedSilicon I bet you could find a deal on this procedure at a local construction site. 🤔
@Elizafox The men in my family all swear by chiropractors and spend waaay too much money on them whenever they think they need an adjustment. I spend that money on physical therapists. Guess which of us can still do a handstand.

@Elizafox

The always great Dr. Glaucomflecken had Ortho Bro deliver 4th degree burns to chiropractors.
