In case anybody is confused about what is going on with todon.nl and todon.eu:

- About a week ago, a fairly new todon.nl user jumped over from BlueSky to harass a trans woman on fedi.

- That harassment is based on a lot of very niche queer politics from Tumblr.

- This harassment has escalated into the todon.nl user making at least five fake accounts to dodge blocks.

- Todon.nl has taken no actions to stop this harassment.

#FediBlock #FediAdmin

The niche queer politics are all based on a series of decades old Tumblr posts that nobody read, but roughly speaking:

- There is a conspiracy theory that trans women all hate men and want to force everybody to become women.

- Trans women are impacted by misogyny and sometimes talk about things like feminism and patriarchy, just like cis women do.

- People find a trans woman talking about feminism, and then justify harassment with the conspiracy theory.

One thing to keep an eye out for is the acronym "TIRF".

The entire point of the acronym is that it's pronounced identically to "TERF".

It's obviously cruel to call trans women TERFs, so people who want to be cruel to trans women reverse engineered an acronym to do that.

That makes it really easy to to identify this sort of extremely-online transmisogynist harassment.

Notionally, TIRF stands for "trans-inclusive radical feminist".

If you ignore the homophone, TIRF is so meaningless as to be nonsensical because:

- Being trans-inclusive is a good thing.

- Radical feminism is just any feminism that has the goal of abolishing patriarchy.

Most modern feminists are both trans-inclusive and radical feminists.

It feels strange to call a feminist "trans-inclusive" or "radical" because those things are kind of just the default.

@fedilore I just want to note that, rather than making any statements, clarifying themselves, or taking action against clearly harassment-based accounts on their instance, the Todon.nl admin has added an angry statement to their bio, and done nothing else.

This is in response to my initial report when the post first went live, the takedown request I made, the follow-up, and my communication with his instance host on defamation, and the legality of defamation in the Netherlands.

I am now receiving random attacks every few hours wherein I now have to use scripts to auto-suspend any remote users on brand new accounts, and this has been going on for 2 weeks now.

You shouldn't harass anyone, but moderation this negligent should require a fediverse-wide response.

  • This is worse than the shite I got from Ro & WelshPixie and their followers for taking a close look at TheBadSpace.
    • Tho I did preemptively blocked all their followers and still do!

@kkarhan @fedilore I’m literally losing my mind at just the endless waterfall of people excusing this behavior, I thought the fediverse was better than all of this

@cmdr_nova @fedilore the priblem are what people do to other people.

  • Those are Power Structures, Incentives and Modalities…
    • Not that they choose to do it on the #Fediverse

I'm really sorry for you, but I know this is a huge Problem!

@kkarhan @cmdr_nova @fedilore Can you block domains? All I seem to be able to do is filter words. I can block users by going to their profile. But how do I block a domain, as a user?

@rozeboosje @cmdr_nova @fedilore that depends on the used software...
Some clients [i.e. @Tusky] allow the choice to block/mute an entire domain.
In Mastodon, a workaround is to go to /settings/imports[i.e. https://masto.ai/settings/imports in your case] whilst being logged in and then create a text file with one domain per line and no comments.
i.e.

domain.example
example.com
...

and import that as domain blocking list and that should then be processed.

  • Make shure that merge is selected.

@rozeboosje @cmdr_nova @fedilore @Tusky Also when you open up someone's profile there should be a hidden menu with ... that then allows you to select block domain at the bottom of the list...
@kkarhan @cmdr_nova @fedilore @Tusky ok let me test that. If I accidentally block you don't worry, I will unblock you again

@rozeboosje @cmdr_nova @fedilore @Tusky cuz it'll automatically unfollow & block all users from said domains, making them unable to refollow until you unblock said domain.
