A #cinema #documentary #anthropology question:

Years ago I saw a low-budget doc about anthropologists visiting Zanskar #Tibet before the first Chinese road arrived. They interviewed the king, a doctor, and a kind elder who only wanted to talk gossip and kept refilling their barley beers.

Today all I can find by Search are glowing big-budget praises of China in Tibet.

Does anyone else recall that earlier doc?

Zanskar, the Last Place on Earth (1980)

The Works of Marianne Chaud (2008โ€“2010)

Drop Tibet and China in your search. Look at:
Zanskar documentary Michel Peissel 1980
or
anthropologist documentary Mustang kingdom

I have no clue, but a friend that I knew would. He said it sounds like "Weekend", and he believes it may have been a late 60's movie.

@sflorg no, I thought Weekend too, which is crazy enough that it should, but the only car they have they already had, or maybe stole.

My only other likely faulty recollection is they are on the run having stolen a bag of the mobster's money, are being pursued and hence why they need a car and only have that bag of cash.

@sflorg another driving me nuts is this gif that I am 105% certain is from Amelie, of which I have three copies and this appears in none of them. Back when I still used LLMs (before I Found Out) one insisted it was amelie and gave a timestamp adding this was in the sequence of her plan, but none of my copies have this in that sequence, or anything close!

@sflorg all I know is the IMDb runtime is the same as my three but it is totally possible mine were abridged, although it's a pretty stupid cut if it was cut.

Also, I don't recall seeing it in theatres back then, but I do recall this scene, only those costumes don't even appear in the editions I have!

So everyone else also believes it SHOULD be in there? ๐Ÿค”
