why is telegram asking me if i want to summarize my message with ai if i write three lines of text
it's a premium feature but i don't have premium. do i have to patch the binary so that it stops trying to upsell me on that or what
@whitequark it’s exactly what a supposedly secure messaging system needs, to send your message off to someone else to re-write for you
@jpm telegram is basically plaintext
@whitequark @jpm But that's not what its fans would have you believe...
@whitequark does seem like it, I got the feature a couple of weeks before yesterday's official announcement and it's so annoying.

@msfjarvis @whitequark I now have all the information I need to give Telegram a hard pass, forever.

Edit: I should point out that I'm not criticising people for using Telegram; we all have to do things for reasons. But it is certainly not commending itself for adoption.

@kbm0 @msfjarvis @whitequark

Aside from slop extruder and technical shortcomings the network is a Nazi haven. And it's not just hands-off moderation, the company uses Nazi dogwhistles in their official communication.

@msfjarvis @whitequark theres a setting but its tucked away deep in settings -> advanced -> experimental -> hide ai button (its at the very bottom of the list for me, and you might need to update to see it) https://yiff.life/@erkhyan/116372896159989975

FYI, it’s now possible to hide the AI button on Telegram Desktop, but you’ve got to dig up a little to do so. Settings → Advanced → Experimental Settings → Hide AI Button If you don’t see the option, update the app first. (Unfortunately, still waiting for the option to exist in the mobile app.) Attention, this post is for Telegram users and is ***NOT*** an invitation for critics of Telegram to direct their criticism at my mentions.

Yiff.Life - It's not what you think...
@unnick @whitequark I use the Unigram client on Windows which hasn't caught up yet so that's not where my issue is, it's Android where I see the AI button.
@unnick @msfjarvis @whitequark why the fuck is hiding a button an "experimental" feature. *throws hands up in exasperation*
@whitequark if you're on tdesktop there is an "experimental setting" (settings > advanced > experimental settings) to hide that thing
@dusk wow, they REALLY shoved it down there
@whitequark at least there's an option for it, unlike some of their other upsells / AI crap
@dusk not on android apparently :(
@whitequark I got really pissed when I realized most of my privacy 'don't allow message from someone' guardrails all had hard overrides in the form of someone with Premium doing so. I'm not looking forward to dealing with this new affront.
