“The Netherlands is building a "digital emergency kit" in case the internet shuts down nationwide”

@crispius espechally whenthe #USA has the capability to make such a disconnect happen by weaponizing the #centralization of the #Internet and #sanctions as a form of #HybridWarfare
@crispius would be useful if they said what was in the kit. Cash and physical ID. What else? Phone and address list?

@johnefrancis @crispius

Address & phone list + account numbers & account recovery info.

ID, critical documents, and medical history (for each human & pet), export of password manager. Blank forms for placing orders (e.g. pharmacy + medical supplies). The exact list varies depending on the makeup of your household, but if you imagine needing to go six weeks without internet and still take care of things the list you come up with should easily cover any short outage.

@teresa_athome @crispius hmmm...I don't think I'll be exporting my password manager to plaintext on paper. What would I be using the passwords for during a digital disruption?

@johnefrancis @crispius Make a kit to cover the emergency scenarios you might encounter and add to it as your situation changes.

I added hard copy passwords to our kit after dealing with multiple estates where passwords/account info in the password manager and/or device access were an issue. I probably won’t ever need them, but someone else may. (I worry more about something happening to the digital copies than I do about someone locating a physical copy. )

Having just dealt with the passing of my mom, I can’t endorse this last part strongly enough! While It’s not directly related to emergency preparedness (although it kind of is). I was fortunate to have access to my mom’s iPad, and that she did most of her dealings online. I was able to identify and gain control of her multiple online accounts and deal with them accordingly. My dad has dementia, so she looked after most of his business too. (Thank you, Apple password manager!)

Here’s what I found from the Netherlands’ official site. It closely mirrors @teresa_athome’s suggestions.

Putting together an emergency kit | Denk vooruit

Having an emergency kit means you are prepared for the first three days (72 hours) of an emergency situation. Putting together an emergency kit is easier than you think. You probably have most of the stuff already. First gather together the most...
