Today in the Kitchen at Cake HQ:
Its been a while! We've switched to our own in-house Mastodon library, bringing better reliability and control. Mastodon also gets quoting support, lists, a brand new streaming backend and API V2 uploads. Telegram picks up topics support, a shared media buffer, and library updates.

TweeseCake | Change log

Due to internal changes, if you get buffers with empty items on Mastodon, you may need to remove your database files from %appdata%/tweesecake, or userdata for portable setups.
@app I'm running portable and can't find userdata anywhere. Is taht a folder? I need this put very simply. LOL
@VE3RWJ So even if the app is being ran portably, unless you do it manually, it still saves data to %appdata%\TweeseCake. So you should press windows+r, type %appdata%\TweeseCake and then remove the DB files and data folder from your mastodon-x folders where x is the number.
@app OK and the database files all end in extension .db?
@VE3RWJ basically, you just want to be left with the session.json file, and the session.json.bak file.
@app Sorry, one more stupid question. I have now lost bookmarks, local, and federated buffers. Where do I go to bring those back?
@VE3RWJ so all of those buffers are in the shift f10/applications context menu.
@app and thanks for continuing to develop Tweesecake by the way.
@app never mind. Just found them. LOL I haven't done this in years.
@VE3RWJ Yeah, sorry for the little inconvenience there.
@app Hmm, bookmarks not populating. I just bookmarked something and it didn't show up either. I'll live haha.
@app Thanks, I was wondering about that.
@app Only the .db files? There are .db-shm and .db-wal files in here too, and I don't know if I need to delete those.
@silveraura7 Yes, delete those as well just to be safe. But do it with the app closed of course or it won't let you
@app Found what I needed. Thanks for the app update!
@app Looks like I do have a C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Roaming\TweeseCake after all. OK. what files am I supposed to delete?
@app Thanks for the update. I appreciate all of your work.
@app Yeah, was a little horrified to see the cake not showing anything in the update. Thanks to Shane I figured out how to fix it
@app I got this, thx for the work around.
@app glad you guys are back
@app I was positively surprised when I got an update notice. I still use this client, mainly for its excellent Telegram support, and so glad you got the support for topics, that was one thing which really made me reconsider my client choice. On the Mastodon side, not sure what's up with that but when I updated, my list of posts simply showed empty items. I deleted and re-added the session, and now it's back to normal.
@app thanks very much for this. I'm hearing "stream connection lost" quite often. Is this normal?
@techsinger Could be an issue with either your connection or the instance. We're on the same instance as you are here and don't see that message.
@app Is there a method of knowing what it could be? Also, I have two remote instance timelines open. Could it be those?
@techsinger Remote instance timelines don't stream, so not likely.
@app Also, if I may ask, is there a way to stop that message from being spoken? If it goes down it goes down, but I assume it will come up again.
@techsinger as of this current moment, no.
@app thanks very much. Something weird, though. I put "stream connection lost" in my NVDA dictionary and it's still saying it. Also, it's not in my speech history for NVDA. Do you have any ideas on this?
@techsinger NVDA's gotten kind of weird about things that it actually passes through the dictionary now adays. It used to be that anything that was spoken was passed through, now that's not always the case.
@app Again, thanks for the answers. One more question. I have disabled streaming. I've never done that before. What should I expect?
@techsinger Posts might just come in on a small delay.
@app lovely. Thanks very much.
@app wtf? I think I'm losing it. I just heard it say "stream connection lost" again. Is it possible that it's doing that despite streaming having been disabled and my having restarted?
@techsinger Wait a sec. Could another app on your system possibly be doing that?
@techsinger Hahaha. You're running FastSM, and that's what's doing it. I just looked and TC's code doesn't say stream connection lost anywhere, FastSM's does.
@app genius. There's no other word. Pure genius. Sorry to have disturbed. Just to show you the stupidity of the user, I was running SM on my 10 machine and TC on my Windows 7 machine. I didn't know which was saying it, obviously. Talk about bad timing. Again,
sorry to have disturbed
@techsinger Hahahahahaha! I'm very amused.
@app Oh, and another thing, just FYI. I can now launch TC on Windows 7 seemingly without VXKex. The checkboxEnable VxKex for this program is off, but it's working without issue so far as I can see.
@techsinger What in the world, how odd. I have no explanation for that currently.
@app no clue. Maybe it's because VX is installed? Again, though, tc .9 has that box completely unchecked, no other stuff is checked in that dialog. the box in properties for .8 is checked and has been for months.
@app Whenever you have a minute, could you be good enough to launch the timeline for mastodon.stickbear.me many of the posts in that timeline are not announced as you go alt+win+up/down through the timeline. I have no clue why. Are you seeing this?
@techsinger These are boosts from users. I believe this is a bug.
@app are you sure, if I may ask? I do see a few boosts being available. For example, and this is just the first one I encountered, I got Josh: Boosting Bri (Bri): FastPlay 0.6.2. Add the ability to reorder stations and podcasts in the favorites tabs, using control up and down arrows. There is a reset to alphabetical option in the advanced tab.Add error dialogs for why spacial audio is unable to work.https://masonasons.me/pages/FastSuite.php, 5 minutes ago, Mastodon
Fast Suite, a set of programs designed to be accessible, light weight and fast

@techsinger not 100% sure of course, but in the past that's what silent posts in remote timelines signified.
@app It's very possible. As I said, it may well be that, when the post is a boost of someone the reader follows, it's spoken. Note that the last version did announce all of them, I should say.
@app thank you, this is fixed, at least I can't get it to break.
@app However, this is a boost of an account I follow.
@app excellent thanks
@app annoyingly I updated after you posted this so had the empty buffer issue. went to the tweesecake homepage but no link to the changelog from the homepage or the docs.
I wish I knew what the way you operates hurts my brain sometimes.
@cachondo The link to the changelog is on the download page and there is also a changelog.txt file in the directory.
@app the download happens automatically from within the ap, so I didn't even go there
@app @cachondo You can also press Win Alt C from the buffers section to open a changelog buffer.
@FreakyFwoof @app I update so infrequently I'll probably forget about it next time. :(
@cachondo @app Yeah, I had to look it up haha
@cachondo @FreakyFwoof @app also it's key to configure mastodon with alt win P and clear posts at startup enable, then disable it once completed. I've had it just now where posts were not reading properly and I have no followers, no friends and no notifications.
@TomGrant91 @cachondo @app Aah I always keep that on, keeps the thing from filling up with tat I'll never read.
@cachondo There is also a view changelog hotkey in the TweeseCake session.
