It's dispiriting to see how firmly entrenched is the notion that a top-level tech executive must necessarily be one of the world's greatest geniuses, a man (and it's ALWAYS a man) whose opinions on all subjects are instantly judged to be newsworthy and published worldwide for the edification and enlightenment of the people. Scam artists like Sam Altman have been
allowed to set themselves up as the sole custodians and evangelists for the future. Oh sure, they must apply gigantic pressures to tech journalists in order to obtain only the most fawning and uncritical coverage—but was it ever necessary for tech journalism to yield to such pressures?
