I didn’t register for the draft when I turned 18, because I didn’t — and don’t — believe that conscription is compatible with democracy. If you can’t raise a volunteer army, don’t have the war.

@gknauss My son just turned 18. I grew up in Canada and didn't get US citizenship until years later, so I didn't know about this law forcing you to sign up.

My jaw hit the floor when I was told only men have to do it.

Yup, my college financial aid was tied to it too.

@jztusk @astoriadave It likely would have messed up getting a government job or a security clearance, too, if I’d ever needed those.
