Could TERs in Bourgogne get *even worse*?

Probably!

If Renfe manages to win the contract rather than SNCF... 🤨

RENFE pivots to French regional passenger markets amid Avril authorisation delays

FRANCE: Spanish national operator RENFE is reportedly seeking regional passenger operating contracts after allowing an agreement for high speed paths between Paris and Lyon to lapse.

Railway Gazette International

And I can totally imagine it

Renfe goes to the Région with a *super cheap* bid, promises Neugnot that "pour le comfort de tous" they have to introduce compulsory reservation, and so they can cut back the service even more

Région saves money, passengers lose, and there we go!

@jon I'm getting so frustrated with french railway. I was judging it on the few trips I usually do, lyon->paris, lyon-karlsruhe, Besancon-Lyon TER. But as soon as you go away from the main lines you have to put so much effort into booking that you know nearly no one is ready to make this tradeoffs compared to other transports :(
I really hope that something will go in the right direction at some point. I'll continue doing it but I'm in a privileged position having a lot of time.

@tobikabla Tell me about it! Given I live on one of these damned awful lines in rural France.

It's basically as if anything that isn't a big city does not count.

Why would renfe be worse? Shouldn’t the conditions be the same between operators like in Germany
@macsquirelera.bsky.social Because Renfe, like SNCF, does not see the point of anything that is not compulsory reservation. And the Région is short of cash. So a cheap, low service Renfe bid would have a solid chance of success.
Oh is the timetable not set by the state offering the contract?
@macsquirelera.bsky.social Not fully, no. One of the means to win these bids is to offer more trains than currently running. But you could conceivably win by offering as many, but cheaper.
@jon it's already pretty awful.
@eco_amandine Right, exactly. But add compulsory reservation and it can get *even worse*!
@jon This article from @eldiarioes last week claims Renfe "threw the towel" after continued delays with the homologation of Talgo S106 (train long in operation in Spanish network).

@odioMasto Which is true. Because that train is a pile of crap.
@jon I don't know anything about that, can you expand?
@odioMasto Terrible ride quality. Software problems. Cracks to the bogies. Too high axle load. And - according to SNCF - causes damage to track (and I believe them, as another railway (not Spain) has detected the same with Talgo designs).
Chancers to the left of me, malevolent incumbents to the right, stuck in the middle with... what?

Some days following railway news leaves me shaking my head and wondering what I am doing in this whole business. Today was one such day. First I read the news that ÉcoTrain - a French GadgetBahn - has managed to raise €3 million. But it's the track and the public
