RENFE pivots to French regional passenger markets amid Avril authorisation delays

FRANCE: Spanish national operator RENFE is reportedly seeking regional passenger operating contracts after allowing an agreement for high speed paths between Paris and Lyon to lapse.

And I can totally imagine it

Renfe goes to the Région with a *super cheap* bid, promises Neugnot that "pour le comfort de tous" they have to introduce compulsory reservation, and so they can cut back the service even more

Région saves money, passengers lose, and there we go!

@jon I'm getting so frustrated with french railway. I was judging it on the few trips I usually do, lyon->paris, lyon-karlsruhe, Besancon-Lyon TER. But as soon as you go away from the main lines you have to put so much effort into booking that you know nearly no one is ready to make this tradeoffs compared to other transports :(
I really hope that something will go in the right direction at some point. I'll continue doing it but I'm in a privileged position having a lot of time.

@tobikabla Tell me about it! Given I live on one of these damned awful lines in rural France.

It's basically as if anything that isn't a big city does not count.
