This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge is "Remote Controls"! This is a really hard one.

And this idea, in my opinion, is not quite close enough for an #AniMangaFoundIt . But I captured the screenshots anyway, so let's post it as an "Also-Ran" or a "Swing-and-a-miss".

In "Magilumiere, Magical Girls Inc.", Magic is not conjured from wands, or drawn into hexes - it's programmed and transmitted to Magical Girls in the field.

During a visit to a conference, an emergency appears and the team at scrappy magical girl start-up Magilumiere need to act fast to neutralize the threat. Enter engineer Nikoyama's laptop - a way to create and send customized magic spells into the field!

The magic can be controlled, uh, remotely.

Close enough?

Though as with ALL media where programming plays a part, it's best not to look too closely at the "code".

At least it's not HTML like you see in a lot of "hacker"-related media.

@moleSG A laptop is certainly a valid shape for a remote control, but doesn’t he just send a spell off a spell for the magical girls to use?

That code isn’t half bad! Assuming there’s actual magic setup stuff off screen above, the part we see looks like it could be the description/stats of the spell they select out of a UI. I like how things are being separated by \n new line characters. :)

@Ragashingo Yeah, unfortunately, you're completely correct! It constructs & sends the magic, but doesn't actually execute it. So I'm going to try and think of a better remote control by Sunday night! If not that'll do cos I like that show getting a bit more publicity. The manga in particular is great!

I think the immersion breaker for me is that that code was supposedly written in the middle of a serious emergency where time was of the essence. And you stopped to put a nice clean __str__ in there??

But I agree, definitely better than most :P

@moleSG Those nimble magical girl startups, they pull off miracles!

(Meanwhile I had to edit my own post because I typed /n not \n... Would probably just make that string a jumbled mess, but mistakes like mine could lead to far worse!) :p
