Oh nice! The developers of Little Snitch have made a version for Linux. Like they say at the start of the post, I never found an alternative I was happy with when I switched from macOS to Linux. Although, with vastly more open-source software in my workflow it was also less necessary.

Little Snitch for Linux โ€” Because Nothing Else Came Close

Recent political events have pushed governments and organizations to seriously question their dependence on foreign-controlled software. The core issue is simple and uncomfortable: through automatic updates, a vendor can run any code, with anyโ€ฆ

OpenSnitch already exists. I've been using it for a while.

@jackwilliambell yeah I tried it (the post also mentions it), but it didn't give me an experience equivalent to Little Snitch on macOS. Sorry it was a while ago, and I didn't remember the specific reasons that stopped me sticking with it.
@wezm @jackwilliambell same experience. I should give OpenSnitch another try before trying LittleSnitch.
@wezm @gptreb I love little snitch! Thatโ€™s good news.
@wezm OpenSnitch has been around for a while. How does LittleSnitch compare?
@glitch Can't say. I haven't been able to run this LittleSnitch yet, and my macOS experience with it was nearly 10 years ago now. I also tried OpenSnitch many years ago, but it didn't stick. I don't recall why.
@wezm this scratches an itch I didn't know I had and I love that
@wezm Neat! How's it compare to opensnitch? We've never used that either, I'm just curious.
@wezm Oh never mind, the article covers that, heh. :3
@wezm Looks like I will be upgrading my Ubuntu24.04 machines at home to 25 on the weekend...
@wezm The lifeboat gains another set of oars.

> The main application code is in Rust, a language I've wanted to explore for quite a while. And the user interface was built as a web application.

Welp

@bugaevc I think it would be pretty involved to build the equivalent native UI. And it's a tool that is intended to run in the background and not be seen most of the time, so the web UI seems like a reasonable trade off.
