This coming literally in the same week as Microsoft attempting to gaslight some users of older Office versions concerning their license feels prescient.

I am a Christian, and I have recently been studying the Old Testament, specifically from the NRSVUE. Today I studied Ruth, and I was struck by how much Boaz embodies the sort of ethos I wish more Christians embraced today. Of course, the story of Ruth and Boaz has its unpleasant anachronisms, but nevertheless he did what I wish more people did - saw an immigrant woman down on her luck as a person to be helped, cared for, even loved, rather than as a problem to be fixed.

"AI Overviews are now used by more than 2.5 billion monthly users" - an utterly meaningless statistic when AI overviews are automatically generated at every search without the opportunity to turn them off. We all "use" oxygen, that statistic is as worthless as it is meaningless.

@amarioguy they were rewriting titles since 2012, but they apparently started to do it with AI only a few months ago, as per https://www.theverge.com/tech/896490/google-replace-news-headlines-in-search-canary-coal-mine-experiment?
@shinmera
Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines

Google is beginning to replace news headlines in its search results with ones that are AI-generated. After AI clickbait nonsense in its Google Discover news feed, it’s starting to mess with headlines in the “10 blue links” too.

we already have a data center in the city it's called the library they use a secure system of transferring small layers of ink upon tiny sheets it doesn't even need electricity or metals
@nshki hey, I happened to read your blog post on installing Linux in a Pixelbook. I'm thinking of doing the same, and wanted to ask if you still feel that ElementaryOS is a good option for it, any caveats you've found in the years since, etc. If you don't mind!

Hey nerds 😎

I'm fundraising for my incredibly cool femme/queer electronics camp that's holding on by bloodied teeth this year. Find it in my bio.

BUT ALSO we take supplies. Specific stuff. We need:

-Wire cutters (not nippers!). We clean rust

-Nice-ish Raspberry Pis, mini computers, larger external hard drives and accessories. We teach about Kiwix, cyberdecks and more

-Meshtastic hardware

-Art PCBs (best by femmes/queers) for our pop-up museum

-Lockpick gun and practice padlocks

DM me.

I also found it interesting that I'm not alone in mostly watching YouTube for entertainment. I find that it is easier and often more productive to find stuff I want to watch there than on more traditional streaming platforms. I'd be interested to see what proportion of YouTube-watchers also pirated traditional media, and if they did so more out of convenience or more from a belief that the state of the media industry justifies doing so.

An interesting read. I'm disappointed to see that so many people are adopting corporate LLMs as a "creative" tool or to provide human-like contact. Hopefully this decreases as people realize there are better alternatives that are less harmful. I was glad to see that social media use is waning, as I see it to be generally unhealthy. (though obviously ymmv).

Remember when a “legitimate argument” peddled against #EVs was the power grid would fail? Too much strain? Oh WOE be to the power lines! Grandma will DIE in her home in August because YOU plugged in!

Yet suddenly we are full steam ahead building #datacenters the size of Manhattan to make banana pics. #AI #slop. And the electric demand will be colossal and constant.

Society and the world needs to stop being fooled and corralled by interests that don’t care about you.
