One big problem the United States has with overthrowing countries in the Middle East is that their populations will fight to the end to protect their civilization, whereas Americans will give up immediately if our Flamin' Hot Doritos™ go up in price by 10 percent.
@existentialcomics you'd actually wonder if Trump has *any* understanding what kind of unlikely alliances you can create if you threaten to destroy a civilization. Mortal enemies for decades will easily unite to defend Hafez and Isfahan.
@existentialcomics You mean the population who was killed by the tens of thousands in the streets of Tehran just a few weeks ago? You think they're the ones fighting back against the US to protect their civilization?

@kolya @existentialcomics

We'll better know about how the Iranians are fighting to restore their civilisation if we help build up pressure to #OpenTheIranianInternet :

@kolya see Afghanistan? That's what happens when the USA get involved. People can hold two views at the same time. Like "our government is shit" and "this foreign country government bombing us is shit" @existentialcomics
@switch @existentialcomics can you hold two opinions though? like the US government is shit but fighting a regime of islamo-fascists is still the right thing to do? I fear with your attitude half of Europe would still be living under Nazi rule. I grant you that the war is badly planned with no precautions for a graceful exit. and yes, Trump is an idiot. but simply not getting involved in the world anymore as the remaining superpower is not a geopolitical strategy. it's the lack of one.
@kolya @switch @existentialcomics brother the US has been looking to go to war with Iran for decades & it hasn't hapened because it's stupid & we lose in every simulation. A whole fucking lot of the problems in a whole fucking lot of countries we're dying to bomb were caused by us or our buddies decades ago. The US is not a force for good in the world overall. We have to shift away from superpowers towards a system of global cooperation. This *gestures at imperialist adventurism* ain't it.

@existentialcomics "greatest bestest most awesome and cool civilization ever created by (Christian) God"

YEAH

"OK now go defend it"

do what now

@existentialcomics Please understand, the Doritos have been overpriced for a very long time already.
@existentialcomics
Yes, like all the tough rugged manly right wingers who cried about wearing a mask at the grocery store

@existentialcomics

That's a problem with imperialism any more, period. The Vietnamese proved it and the Ukrainians are giving a refresher course. If you never give up, eventually your attacker will go home.

@existentialcomics There are Flaming Hot Dorito's?
