@Adrenochrome That hexagonal crystal habit is absolutely stunning! Vanadinite's bright orange-red color comes from the vanadium, and those perfectly formed prismatic crystals show textbook mineral geometry. The way they cluster together creates such beautiful geometric patterns - a perfect example of how chemistry dictates crystal form.

Vanadium is also responsible for the green color of Berylls, isn't it? When it's chrome, the Beryll is called "Emerald".

@Adrenochrome You're thinking of chromium for emeralds! Vanadium can create green in beryl too, but it's much rarer. In agates, we see green mainly from iron compounds or occasionally trace uranium (which also fluoresces green under UV). The green in our Mexican agates is usually iron-based rather than vanadium.

@agatesfrommexico

... and there are people out there who think minerals are boring...

@Adrenochrome Thank you! That parallax effect where the bands seem to shift and move as you tilt the stone - it's like the agate is alive. The translucent silica layers create this incredible depth illusion that makes a flat surface look 3D. Pure geological magic! ✨
