Married and own a home by 30 year old in the US:

2025: 12%
2010: 25%
2000: 35%
1990: 43%
1980: 45%
1970: 48%
1960: 52%

I’m sure everything is fine.

@FluentInFinance @mjt if this is sbout the economy, why is "married" a criterion?

@deborahh @FluentInFinance Such an excellent point. So sorry to have missed it, and thanks for the reminder.

Damn. This stuff seeps into one’s consciousness and is hard to surface, much less eliminate. Must continue trying.

@mjt it's impossible to pay attention to it all. It may help to to narrow how much we need to pay attention to, perhaps.
@deborahh @FluentInFinance @mjt I assume, a marriage might be an indicator for "confidence for a good life in future*, like buying house is.
@Reinald @FluentInFinance @mjt I think, in the US, not all partners have the privilege of marriage, in all states.
@deborahh @Reinald @FluentInFinance For now (and I emphasize “for now,”) the Supreme Court’s various rulings on the subject permit any two people to get married legally. Federal law (or court-interpreted Constitutional issues) control, superseding state laws. But clerks who register marriages and issue marriage licenses can subvert federal law if they’re not sued or exposed. (1/2)
As with all rights, they’re not actively enforced by a god nor governments. Rights depend on the goodwill and support of the body politic, and the US body politic needs a really good doctor. (2/2)
