Let's assume you don't sportsball (because I don't).

Where is the transfer portal that opens in Michigan terminating and what does that have to do with 2027?

Fun answers only.

My guess is that the portal opens on the dark side of the moon after the Artemis screw dropped off the terminating portal. And the hope is that we can shove the billionaires through it (without a space suit) before the end of the year.

@gairdeachas

There's a series of novels where FTL isn't possible, but wormholes are, and relativistic effects work.

As a practical matter, this (obviously) results in time travel, as they send one half of a wormhole on a ship to relatvistic speeds.

Thinking of a lot of uses for a wormhole that is one way and dumps people out when the results of their actions are very clear.

@gairdeachas does it lead to Waffle House? I assume portals go to Waffle House now.
@gairdeachas Portal to 2027, obviously.
@gairdeachas Oh crap. The transfer portal is *incoming*. Multiple factions from different futures are converging on us over the next several months. This is likely to be a mad scramble to wrest control of our timeline before the 2027 inflection point.
@gairdeachas Well, I could tell you, but then I'd have to, um, liberate you. But it does involve the two states directly south of here.

@gairdeachas I know what the transfer portal is, so I can't really play, but... :)

Some sort of weird clipping happened the first time I saw this and it said "Michigan gets its mom then the transfer portal opens and the scramble for 2027 begins" and I COULD NOT figure out what that meant. I eventually shrugged and wandered off, but upon coming back I can see the word is clearly "moment" (partially blocked by a "Hide" button that I didn't see before), and that makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE.

So maybe it's some sort of mom-transferring portal that only works in Michigan?

@jonobie hahah! Watch out world, Michigan's mom is coming for you via the transfer portal!
@gairdeachas The transfer portal opens into a vat of Vernors Ginger Ale, so I hope whomever gets sucked into it next year knows how to swim.
@APBBlue I have never heard of this! Is it a midwestern brand?
@gairdeachas Yes! Michigan!

@APBBlue @gairdeachas I'm literally drinking it now! We have it shipped. ๐Ÿ™‚

Think of it as ginger ale with a soupฤ‡on of cream soda.

@jkirkendall @gairdeachas I've seen it at our Safeway before! (I don't know if they usually stock it.)
