Nothing about what we are seeing from this administration is mainline Christian. That’s why they don’t care what the Pope says. They don’t think the Pope is a real Christian.

All of this comes from an apocalyptic end times sect / cult of Christianity centered on ‘dominionism’.

I grew up in this cult and I can trace a straight line from it to all the worst things about our world today, not just in America (they’re also huge in East and SE Asia, Brazil, Australia..)

If you’ve ever seen an athlete or pop star or actor profess their faith and homophobic beliefs publicly and repeatedly it’s likely part of this:

It’s also tied inextricably to America in the way that Mormonism is (on different aspects): while the leaders are American, indisputably, there are a ton of global faith leaders in the same mold

Mainland Christianity has other issues! But this is the specific flavor I know most about.

Well, Petey’s pastor has a whole thing about what he believes about the end times

Compare that to this chart of different beliefs on the end times (eschatology)

https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/an-evening-of-eschatology

I guessed, without even looking too deeply, that Petey’s pastor was a postmillenialist and I am correct. I can see it all of the statements even third hand

This link compares different positions and even thinks the postmillenialists are NOT fervent enough.. (but useful chart on key positions of theology)

An Evening of Eschatology

Eschatology is an important area of study, and if we keep the gospel central, God is honored when we press into his word to understand it.

@skinnylatte Eschatology sounds a bit rude to me.
@skinnylatte so they're going for a thousand year reich before the second coming? Original, at least.

@skinnylatte Thanks for sharing your perspective. The reason I cancelled my Washington Post subscription was that they got scooped on the story of Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito flying the Appeal to Heaven flag at his vacation home despite having a *multi-year lead* over other publications on this information.

Catholic justices on SCOTUS have aided and abetted the trend of a “Christian exception” over the course of numerous rulings to not only free Christians from compliance with laws the apply to everyone else, but enable Christians to impose their beliefs on those who don’t share them.

@skinnylatte As a mostly Italian-American, I was raised Catholic, although we weren't too devout about it, but it wasn't until around 2001 or so when I had to pivot my life from being a freelance writer to getting a day job in IT and had to work around these kinds of people that I realized I was an atheist, because their views are so toxic, vehement, and just utter nonsense that I knew whatever they believed was garbage. They're so very awful and dangerous.
@skinnylatte 'Our Christianity is the One True Christianity' is one of the core tenets of pretty much all flavours of Christianity, heh.

@sindarina @skinnylatte

Which is remarkable given that anyone who actually reads and listens to Jesus’ words ought to come away with a huge dose of humility and empathy rather than this kind of overweening arrogance. 😞

@skinnylatte wow, now I'm suddenly wondering if this is the Christian church my wife's ex colleague was into. They used to be best friends, but when my wife moved out of Singapore to be with me they lost all contact. We visited Singapore again some time later and all her other ex-colleagues said she'd been off the radar for years - so we paid her a surprise visit. It was a bit stilted and awkward. Not unfriendly, but they haven't spoken since.

@skinnylatte reminds me of the old consolidated track Dominion (mostly a cut of an in person conversation with the band and audience members)

@skinnylatte also apologies for the off topic.

This sounds like a wild way to grow up. Understanding the thoughts here behind the people is instructive

@skinnylatte I always think about this when watching the singing competition tv shows: the judges and many of the competitors make a big point of announcing their faith, every episode of every season. I have to assume the shows were either created originally for that purpose, or were quickly overtaken by that agenda.
@skinnylatte yes, I remember this getting some media attention when Australia's PM was into it (Morrison).
