Nothing about what we are seeing from this administration is mainline Christian. That’s why they don’t care what the Pope says. They don’t think the Pope is a real Christian.
All of this comes from an apocalyptic end times sect / cult of Christianity centered on ‘dominionism’.
I grew up in this cult and I can trace a straight line from it to all the worst things about our world today, not just in America (they’re also huge in East and SE Asia, Brazil, Australia..)
If you’ve ever seen an athlete or pop star or actor profess their faith and homophobic beliefs publicly and repeatedly it’s likely part of this:
It’s also tied inextricably to America in the way that Mormonism is (on different aspects): while the leaders are American, indisputably, there are a ton of global faith leaders in the same mold

I guessed, without even looking too deeply, that Petey’s pastor was a postmillenialist and I am correct. I can see it all of the statements even third hand

The reason I cancelled my Washington Post subscription was that they got scooped on the story of Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito flying the Appeal to Heaven flag at his vacation home despite having a *multi-year lead* over other publications on this information.
Catholic justices on SCOTUS have aided and abetted the trend of a “Christian exception” over the course of numerous rulings to not only free Christians from compliance with laws the apply to everyone else, but enable Christians to impose their beliefs on those who don’t share them.
Which is remarkable given that anyone who actually reads and listens to Jesus’ words ought to come away with a huge dose of humility and empathy rather than this kind of overweening arrogance. 😞
