Landlord just decided she wants sell the apartment 25 DAYS after final lease was signed!!! 😡😭🫨

Trying to decide if it's time to learn about the tenant protection laws here in Norway and dispute it or just move out and move on. 🇳🇴🏡

The frustrating part is that I don't have enough time to wrangle a home purchase, so I'd bet stuck renting again and I am VERY tired of moving!

On the bright side, getting 3 days off for easter was lovely. 🐣

@sommer Oh no! No minimum 1 year lease there? That must be incredibly stressful. :( Hope you can sort it out quickly! 🤞
@arroz so there's a minimum binding period for long term leases, but this was a fixed term 1 year lease which didn't seem to have one. BUT from what I'm reading courts may consider this unreasonable... which is why I'm trying to decide what's harder...getting legal in a new country or finding another apartment in a new country...
@sommer Doesn’t the new owner have to honor that 1 year term? Here it usually works like that, if you buy a rented apartment you’re also buying the lease and have to honor it. But no idea in Norway. 😟 Probably finding a new apartment is the easier option but I’m used to a country (Portugal) where the legal system is a joke. I’m hoping it’s better in Norway.
@arroz form what I'm reading that would be an option (selling it with me in it) BUT she can give me 3 months notice which she did... so yeah - to your point - it's complicated and I'm not sure how well the whole system works here... so ... lots of figure out!
@sommer Yeah I would be incredibly stressed right now if that happened to me so soon after moving. Hoping you can find a nice place soon!
@sommer I don’t think they can terminate the contract just because they’re selling the place. They’d have to transfer the lease to the new owner (with the exact same terms). May be a good idea to join https://www.leieboerforeningen.no/en/ and get their legal advise. They may also provide legal council :)

@romnes hey thanks for this! from what I've been reading it sounds like I'm in a bit of a gray area b/c of this being a fixed-term lease with a 3-month mutual termination policy. That said, this is a great idea; I will absolutely be joining this and getting advice asap before my 1-month protest period expires.
@sommer landlords suck regardless of which country you’re in?
@sommer offering to help you move. ;-)
@schwa you joke but I was actually wondering "how many friends do I have who want a free trip to oslo...? ... and is that cheaper than movers...again"

@sommer I joke? Says who…

But I hope it all works for you. What an unfun situation.

Could be a lot worse though. Could still be living in this shithole country.

@schwa @sommer shame your arm is screwed up to the point you’d only be able to supervise.

Sommer, your landlord sucks. I guess that is true everywhere

@sanguish @sommer Every large project needs a dedicated supervisor.
@sommer Norwegian YouTuber Bjørn Nyland detailed his move from a charming tiny rented house in Oslo to his own house in Jessheim. Don’t remember the details, but the tiny house was cute, like from an Ikea catalogue.
