The average speed of a Dutch passenger car, over the whole year, is around 1.5 km/h (less than 1 mph).
@Sustainable2050
Hah. Thats a funny stat. What about a wheelbarrow?
@Sustainable2050 a follow-up question could be: should this average speed go upwards, or would it be better to even slow it down more?
@Sustainable2050 The average speed of a car is about 45 km/h when in use. This would mean that the average car is 48 minutes per day in use.
@rard That sounds about right. I've read it's 3-5% of the time
@Sustainable2050 That would be a distance of 36 km on an average day. That is what I used to do on days that I cycled to school.
@Sustainable2050 Do you maybe have a source for this?
@janvlug own calculation. Average distance driven: 13,000 km
Hours in 1 year: 8,760 hours
@Sustainable2050 @janvlug most-driven speed is even lower!
@Sustainable2050 ha! When you made your previous post about average charging load I was wondering about this exact stat… now I’m also curious about what my washing machine’s average RPM is over the year 😉
