A lot of things are hard at work right now, but I'm actually writing on an overdue paper, and I just cited a dissertation from 1980 that I love, and a clever paper from 1960 that I read in grad school. (It argues that vowel nasalization is distinctive in English because of pairs like camp/cap, where camp can be pronounced with just a nasal vowel and no [m].)
