#30daysOfBiking what's your favorite spring-themed biking accessory? #BikeNitePQ #BikeTooter

I like this pole pruner for getting under the blackberry thickets that keep invading the bike lane with the thick canes and giant thorns.

@enobacon now there's a useful tool to carry around ... bit big for the daily handlebar bag, but I can think of plenty of trails where it would be needed (I've taken a pair of secateurs with me once or twice for specific problems, nothing that size though)
@ajft I don't like trying to store it, where it rests so wide open, I have to compress the spring and put it in a pliers pouch. Something to hold it upright at the back of the box here would be nice (though I might save that spot for the smaller cut-and-hold secateur, which I can one-hand well enough to not have to stop in some cases.) I'm looking for more of a "safety machete" on a stick, angled hammer/cutter end, that I could use to effectively cut encroaching veg one-handed while riding by.
@enobacon @ajft
We get tall weeds growing on ditch side of guard rails that bend over into what little shoulder we have to bike. I've been thinking handheld trimmer fashioned after tractor sickles, a few narrow slots with box cutter blades or razors that is swung to cut small stems. Might be tough to do with wild roses and raspberries.
@jerzone @ajft I've used the cordless hedger bar, which is basically that oscillating blade but double-sided. The motorized tool is too heavy for how much you're generally trying to cut at once, while rolling. The other problem is that anything which doesn't get cut will tangle and pull the tool out of your hand, so the hammer-ish thing I'm trying to make would simply have utility knife blades tucked into each side, at an angle where stems it didn't cut would not snag, & just slide off the end
@enobacon @ajft That's a good point, when things don't get cut or break things don't turn out so good.
@enobacon 💯 Last year I used a set of those to clear a run of ひっつき虫 (weeds with seed pods that stick ferociously to clothing and hair) on a nearby narrow sidewalk, after I discovered it by riding straight into it. Took like a whole day to scrape the stuff off my kit.
@enobacon Your dot should pay you a salary. I love all the random volunteer bike lane maintenance you do.
