I think I've found our killer use case for the ash from our wood stove: as a moisture absorbent in the barn. We have one of those Tuff Shed barns and the first year I was heartbroken to see so much mold growing on leather and other fabric because it was too damp. (We live in the PNW and it's really dark and wet over the winter.)

The past two years, I've laid out tubs where I pour ash from our wood stove. I think the key is to get a lot of surface area. No mold! I'm so happy.

Heh, about to suggest that. Depending on how much water they've absorbed, they may be pot ash, which is basically potassium.

It really is what plants crave.
