I wandered the streets of Kemptown with #StreetComplete for a bit this morning. As my eyes scanned the rooflines I wondered, not for the first time, why we don’t have a recommendation of clearly marking buildings that were built as pubs as, well, *pubs*. The #OpenStreetMap wiki says they are building=retail but pub architecture is often bolder and retains lost names in stonework for generations. The Somerset Arms, here, was certainly present by 1848. I haven’t found when it closed. #Brighton

@between_beyond And you are right for cases where a pub is currently closed, perhaps with the possibility of being a pub in the future, where you would have ‘disused:amenity=pub’

I wonder if there's any crossover between OSM editors and CAMRA members? It would be a perfect task for them to standardise tagging for this, as it would be good to be able to use OSM to discover interesting/eclectic pubs, whilst also not accidentally visiting a disused one that is now a residential house or something else..

@vfrmedia I’m actually on the flip side of this concern as I would visit a disused one, or at least I go along a street and see a building that in some cases looks almost civic in stature with ornamental brickwork, but it’s actually flats and I want a clue about its life. Examples like the Scots Grey and Bear and Staff from @SK53 's blog are definitely the type I’m thinking of.
