Passing the eastern dam, we get our first look at #Sheepstor, which was the first objective of the hike.
Sheepstor is a #Tor, which means a #granite outcrop at the top of hill. This is the steeper side but we decided to see it as a challenge.
Halfway up the slope, rather appropriately, #Sheep were grazing. On Dartmoor, sheep are left to graze on open moorland without being fenced in. They share it with wild #DartmoorPonies. You have to be careful when driving in this areas since animals can and do roam onto the road and so you have to be ready to stop.
Here’s a #Granite #Bolder resting on a plinth. It often looks like they’ve been artificially placed there as works of art but it’s only the forces of #geology and #erosion which has done that. You can see the reservoir in the background.
