What I kinda love about this is that all it means is a small group of antique computer nerds will likely coalesce to start maintaining a 486-compatible version from now on. It doesn’t mean everyone needs to prepare to throw away their old computers.

Linux is removing 486 support in the next version. My first Linux machine was a 486DX-33. That was so long ago (1995ish?).
