Whenever I can't sleep¹ there's nothing better than a comfy, stupid, familiar movie. You know. An orange cat of movies. Not so stupid to make you groan, but must only require one braincell.

I'm looking to expand my repertoire.

Current insomnia movie is Pacific Rim.
I put it on, and may not make it to the end. Nap land in 3..2...1....zzz²

Now, importantly, collecting responses:

What is your naptime movie? Why?

#movies #recommendations

¹ that's tight now
² I won't reply until I'm zzzzz...

Some of the previous insomnia movies are:

The Matrix
Boondock Saints
Hellboy
Lost Highway

As you can see I'm not one bit precious.

@jjcelery
Lost Highway? That's nightmare territory
@negative12dollarbill I honestly have tried to watch that movie about dozen times before I finally managed to make it through the end - and would fall asleep every time. It has a very weird effect on me.
@jjcelery I guess if you don't get to the scary stuff that could work. Maybe it's the sound which does the trick? Lynch's soundtracks are unusual.

@jjcelery I am more into audiobooks these days, but when I watched more movies:

Shawshank Redemption
Master and Commander
Highlander
PS I Love You

@CStamp @jjcelery Ooooh… Master & Commander… the movie equivalent of a hot chocolate and a good book.
@chongliss @CStamp oooh Master and Commander, it's been years since I've seen that!
@CStamp I recently rewatched the Highlander and weirdly desired a feathered hat 😄

@jjcelery Terence Davies’ “Of Time & The City” for me.
It’s my favourite movie of all time, and I genuinely believe it’s not only the greatest work to be committed to film, but one of the greatest works of humanity.
It’s a seminal piece that has all that is gorgeous about life.

But that it is made entirely of prose and poetry and beautiful music, with slow, ambient black and white imagery, makes it perfect to settle the mind and help one feel safe enough to sleep.

5/5 Sleeping Tablets

@jjcelery I often play it’s audio and close my eyes…
I might even do it now….
@chongliss that sounds lovely, but not likely my cuppa tea. My tastes, alas, seem to be more mainstream 😅
@jjcelery these would all keep me alarmingly, distressingly engaged *eyetwitch* which just goes to show how precious you are, silly >_<
@crowbriarhexe I promise you the novelty and "engagement" with the movie wears off over time 😂 eg. I have lost count of how many times I've watched The Matrix and I can quote entire passages of the Boondock Saints verbatim. At that point it's just extremely familiar and comforting, and bam, naps 😴
