In other news, today was the sunniest day since getting our solar hooked up and the breaker wiring fixed and we produced a whooping 88.54 kWh which ~20 kWh more than our prior best day. For this time of year, it is probably 3x-4x more energy than the house needed on a day like today.

I'm a bit worried about shade, though, when some of the trees fill in with leaves later. Guess we'll see!

I'm pretty much guessing about power usage of the house since I have no good way to measure it or graph it against the solar generation, sadly. Data from the meter supplied by the power company is horribly lagged and limited and I've got no other kind of smart device in the wiring. Maybe someday. I'm sure there are gadgets that could be wired right into my breaker box or something. (Probably for some high cost I don't want to pay.)
@bigzaphod Shelly devices are quite popular and should also work on US split phase supply. https://us.shelly.com/products/shelly-pro-3em-x1

@timo @bigzaphod I have clamps of this style as well and I was well good with installing it by myself. We only have 5 circuits, though with 3 phase power coming in and I measure the 3 leads that come into the apartment, before they even enter the meter.
@bigzaphod emporia vue is a lot of fun.
@bigzaphod interesting following your solar journey. We have it so good in Australia. Late last year I installed a 10 kW array and 20 kW battery. After government grants, paid about $US 5500. As long as I’m careful about the times I plug the car in, I’m pretty much paying nothing for power, day or night. And the system has an app that shows me in real time what I’m generating and how much load the home is pulling. Like, instantly - I turn the kettle on and see the spike within seconds. So I can easily optimise, see when to charge the car etc. It’s all excellent.
@bigzaphod Emporia vue is $200 and not that difficult to install if you’re comfortable opening your panel. Check with your electric company. Mine gave me a rebate that pretty much paid for the monitor
@bigzaphod We bought an Emporia Vue 3 last year for $200, had it installed for an extra $75 while we were having other electrical work done. It’s been great.
@bigzaphod got it for the same reason as you did – we had a solar system, which provided no data whatsoever on consumption, and the electrical company only gave us a net number once a month
