The ideal "countercomputing" (coined by way of "counterculture") device would be something that could be built with basic soldering and mechanical skills you can learn in a weekend, out of parts that are readily available, and which can provide the essential services of a computer outside the more modern "always networked all the time" systems.

I once gave consideration to build a computer from scratch. Melting copper and such.
Its not that outlandish a thought, as a child, I played with decommissioned, east german electromechanical CPU boards that had cogs and selenoids.

My goal would be to connect it to internet at low baud rate.

Practically, it is possible, however beyond the reasonable effort of one individual.

I wish I kept at least one, I can't even find an image of one :(
