I want to start a local cycling advocacy community site. What tool should I chose to build this digital community?

@hmiron whatever the majority people are already using. If not, you'll be starting a Discourse/Mastodon... advocacy group.
@hmiron you need to start with people who bike, in real life. Pamphlets in cycle ways, for example. Then perhaps an email list. People, then systems.
@ojala @hmiron Agreed. The medium doesn't matter if no one is using it.
@hmiron I for one would like to see a dashboard. Map current and planned cycle routes by type, secure cycle storage, and banned areas (like Coventry pedestrianised areas and the tip). Report on surveys and public sentiment, and report data on local cycling casualties.

@hmiron Basing your community on a limited social media server will restrict your audience.

Build a website to manage it.

Post all your content to that site and push it to as many social platforms as you can. Always link back to *your* site.

The site could incorporate the blog and discourse. Use SSO to allow for quick and painless signup as well.

If you pay for any of these bits read the terms and conditions. Be sure *you* own the rights to the content and not the hosting provider.
