Mòrag 🏴I just saw a news report that said the crew of Artemis will be the first humans to travel to the far side of the moon. Didn't Michael Collins do that with Apollo 11? Maybe I misunderstood.

@morag I also think some of the earlier Apollo missions orbited the moon too. Remember seeing a doc about 10 which did everything like 11 except land and they deliberately made sure there wasn't enough fuel for the astronauts to go rogue and attempt to land 🤣
Patrick Hadfield@scottishlass @morag all Apollo missions orbited the moon. Apollo 8 definitely did - Christmas 1968. For those Apollo missions which landed on the moon - Apollo 11 onwards (excepting Apollo 13) - the astronaut who remained in the command module orbited the moon many times.
Curiously, all accounts of Artemis I've read so far indicate that Artemis won't orbit the moon, but instead will loop around the moon and be feeling back towards earth!
