Next year will be the tenth anniversary so we need to prepare with a big party!
wordsmith‽ ⁂I propose special creative projects to be held, themed to the six key points why Mastodon will fail:
1) Terrible name
2) There is no single Mastodon
3) Toots
4) Handles are meaningless
5) Where is everyone?
6) Apps feel like a science project
We can make art, make educational videos, make music, write essays, write poetry!
The possibilities are endless!
Maybe it can be an charity event to support instances!

I think we need to stop trying to make it a broad "platform." From branding (clicking between instances that look the same is confusing to newbies) to recruitment (focus on instances recruiting friends/people with shared interests, over throwing every curious newbie at joinmastodon.org)
Just like moderation, recruitment, tech support, and helping newbies find connections is easier at the smaller instance scale.
