Oh, with that ending they are definitely subtextually boyfriends. That was textbook parental unit accepting their gay son so he can run back to be with his boyfriend. This movie suffered a bit from its length... not because anything should have been cut, but because there was so much happening that it could have easily been two or three movies with their own full arcs. And the twist came out of nowhere (at least it blindsided me). Obviously they're setting up for a Ne Zha 3, which I'm excited for. Anyway, Ao Run? Would.
