Last post for today because I got #EasterEggs in the wild just screaming at me to be found.
I don't know much about #Linux, but on #CDNdid it's appropriate to highlight a Canadian version with a great Canadian name - Maple Linux. Sweet...

Proudly Canadian Maple Linux 1.4: Who Knew Tux Could Be So Polite? - FOSS Force

This Debian‑based distro uses Canadian and EU privacy principles to offer a telemetry‑free, ready‑to‑work Cinnamon desktop.

FOSS Force

finally, something I can bookmark without a #dystopia tag.

Maple Linux, #madeincanada for #cdndid day. #buyCanadian, also when it' free. 😁

Thanks, @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty

@deborahh @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty I was wondering if/when someone was going to start a Canadian distribution — and I love that it’s using Debian as the base.

But: are they not aware that OpenBSD’s founder, Theo de Raadt, lives in Calgary? I don’t know if the OpenBSD folks would consider the OS “Canadian”, but Theo did start the project while living in Canada, and their main FTP site is hosted in Alberta.

@mutemule @deborahh @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty People also tend to forget along these same lines that Arch Linux was started by a Judd Vinet who is Canadian. It's provenance is Canadian though its not a "Canadian distro" in a sense.

@beachcomber @mutemule @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty it appears that some of its 'Canadianness" lies in its philosophy (I am not a linux geek, but that's what it looks like to me):

"uses Canadian and EU privacy principles to offer a telemetry‑free, ready‑to‑work Cinnamon desktop."

@deborahh @beachcomber @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty yeah, I’m curious what they mean by “Canada has no truly Canadian AI, git platform, or operating system.”

I’d consider OpenBSD to be Canadian, and Cohere AI to be Canadian. So maybe it’s just a different understanding of what “Canadian” means: not just Canadian provenance, but also purposefully and explicitly backing Canadian culture and principles?
