I feel like watching some #Iranian movies. I remember watching some very good stuff in the early aughts, that (if I recall correctly) was coming mainly out of the Kurdistan region of the country. Don't quote me.
Then near the end of the aughts a thing happened that made me somewhat lose interest in "cinema" as a pastime. I don't wanna get too much into it, I can't pin it all on Gaspar Noe but he's a central culprit.
But lately I've gotten back to enjoying it some, now and then. I don't necessarily just trust it, cause a Game Of Thrones will not lead with its moral nihilism in the promos, and people still wrapped in their desensitization cloaks will not understand my objections to watching these acts, and likely consider any strong reactions to them as "drama" or some such.
It's not even the violence, it's the violence in its context. I think extreme violence can be entirely non-gratuitous, but an artist has to earn the right to use it, much like they won't let a new construction hire run the big tractor on his first day.
It's okay if the recommendations are violent, violence is a daily character in that region these days. As long as the art is not morally nihilistic. Which is more of a Western thing, I'd say, in terms of video entertainment.
I'm rambling now, cause I am here to get some movie recommendations for stuff that's come out of #Iran (surrounding region also acceptable, particularly if there's a #Kurd or especially #Parsi connection) in the last 10-15 years.
Hit me, Fedi!
(I'm gonna try to show up for #Monsterdon tonight too. I had fun the last time I remembered. Granted, it was only cause there were Daleks, but it was fun.)
