My #XteinkX4 finally arrived! And I already flashed it with Crosspoint Reader and connected it to both my OPDS library (Calibre Web Automated running in Docker on my NAS) as well as my KOsync Server (KO Insight, also hosted on my NAS).

The case I printed last week also works great! So now I can always have an e-reader with me and have one less reason to grab my phone and end up doom scrolling! 👍

PS: I blame @concretedog for this acquisition but am actually thankful for the nerd snipe ^^

So, two issues for now...

The KOsync seems to only one work in one direction for me, need to figure out what's going wrong there. Fetching my progress from the server to the X4 works great, but syncing it up and then moving to my Boox doesn't show me the right point.

The other problem is really bad WiFi. With my phone acting as a Hotspot everything is great, but I have to sit next to my normal AP to allow the X4 to connect without timing out. Weird, can't say other ESPs here have issues.

Hah, issue 1 solved by switching to a Crosspoint Reader fork that implemented the KOsync stuff slightly differently: https://github.com/jpirnay/crosspoint-reader/releases

Doc appointment with horrible time management (nothing new there) but at least I can use the #XteinkX4 to get some nice reading in while waiting for my appointment that was supposed to be 1.5h ago... 🙄
In the end I had to wait for 3h. Yay, reading progress 😅
@foosel when reading became boring i change books. 😀☝️
@foosel Oooo, so tiny! *u*
@foosel Booo to the delays but a favourite for the ereader!
@foosel Hmm, first impression for me: feels a bit small, but I suppose at least in the non-summer months it fits in every jacket pocket, or even pants pocket, but I'm not a fan of carrying two phones either.
Which is of course only in contrast to a normal-sized kindle, which I also never like carrying around if not in a backpack, and so end up not taking with me, so I guess that's the main advantage.
I hope it works out longtime.

@wink for me it's now just part of my EDC, lives in the same pocket as my phone

For reading it home my Boox Nova is more used, but for reading on the go this thing is perfectly sized. Screen size is totally fine, for fiction at least.

@foosel I went to the wrong doctors' rooms with my kid yesterday. I combine bad time management with bad space management!! Fortunately they fitted us in.
@foosel hi! Can you browse con Wikipedia with it?
@Alfa3 no. Maybe with another firmware, or if you find an opds server for Wikipedia.

@foosel Holy moly, that is CUTE!

And CHEAP!

I may have to grab one. I love my Remarkable 2, but it is huge and less than fun to carry around.

@foosel wow that's a nice form factor i would love for me ... but guess my eyes have a different opinion :/
@foosel Oh spannend!
Aber das kann nur mit DRM-freiem Material umgehen, oder?
@thoralf ja, aber darum kümmert sich meine CWA Instanz

@foosel oh?

Edit: Calibre Web Access - gerade mal reingelesen.

@foosel I'd love to see a law that if any professional services charges a fee for missing an appointment, they must pay the same fee to their customers if they cancel or miss their time on the same basis…

@foosel Did you find a way to get KOReader and CrossPoint to talk to CWA’s sync server? I haven’t found a way since the move to BASIC Auth and the push for CWASync plugin.

~Or, are you running one of the other standalone sync servers?~

Edit: reread your original post. Is this the same KO Insight? https://github.com/GeorgeSG/KoInsight

@seth Yes, that's the right one.

I set this stuff up last weekend while the X4 was on its way after I read that CWA's way of handling things would likely be incompatible.

Insight combined with the crosspoint fork works great. Only missing the stats portion now, might have to get coding for that.

@foosel Ah, I was going to ask about that, too. I was bummed that even with the CWASync, the UI doesn’t seem to show reading position. I also sync to Hardcover direct from KOReader and was hoping it would be something like their UI with a book progress bar.
