A have a memory of reading a #scifi book once in which the letters of the alphabet decided they'd been abused for too long and started walking off the books, leaving increasingly blank spaces on the pages. I cannot remember the title or the author - maybe somebody knows?

There’s also the epistolary novel Ella Minnow Pea in which authorities slowly ban individual letters on the island of Nollop of the Carolina coast as they fall off the monument to Nollop, originator of “the quick brown fox…” Mark Dunn 2001
