i still can't get over microsoft saying copilot is for entertainment purposes only

it's just so funny

"this stupid thing we put in all of our productivity and coding software suites is actually only for funsies" - microsoft
@eniko "we put this fun little toy in there, we don't know why all of a sudden bosses all over the world are requiring their programmers to use it for actual code production"

@eniko

are_you_not_entertained.jpg

@oblomov @eniko
Recycled code? 🤷‍♂️
@eniko "We're forcing our employees to use it for our operating system code, but really, it's just a silly lil' guy."
@eniko I have to interact with it at work, and it's not even *good* entertainment.

@eniko it's the future of work

it's here to stay, adopt it or you will be left behind

it's in the search engine, it's in the code editor, it's in excel, it's in notepad

it will only get better

also, unrelated, it's just for lolz

@Tijn @eniko the business strategy is that the old xkcd of "the currency of the future will be reaction images" will come true

@mmby @Tijn @eniko

This is what happened to Clippy, when he went through the Captain Capitalism machine like Steve Rogers.

@eniko It's like how manufacturers of certain personal massage implements used the "novelties" loophole to avoid needing to make them out of body-safe materials.
@eniko at least it's entertaining 🤪
@eniko 's that mean it IS fit for purpose? Aaaa
@eniko wait... isn't "for entertainment purposes only" og language from the microsoft flight simulator eula? did somebody in legal make the funnest possible category mistake?

@rakslice @eniko I don't think they merely copy-pasted the Flight Simulator EULA, the Copilot Terms of Use don't really read like that. It all seems very deliberate.

I think the Microsoft legal team looked at how many times Copilot returns false results and went "whoa whoa whoa, we better cover our asses"

Copilot - Terms of Use

Microsoft Copilot
@eniko The license agreement is itself entertaining.

@eniko
"Our toy operating system that always crashes and wastes your time and drives you insane now includes something new that also doesn't work as expected." -- Microsoft

How is that even news?

@eniko I've been saying for years that AI should come with "entertainment purposes only" label, so imagine my reaction to the news
They did achieve some entertainment with that line in the EULA for sure.

@eniko which is a weird thing to say given that businesses have to pay for that with their Office subsciption.

But then again, even MS Windows Pro used to include solitaire.exe, giving hours of entertainment to bored office workers

@eniko I used to watch videos or read articles on my lunch break but now I just get Microslop Copilot to tell me funny jokes 🤣🤣🤣
@eniko where did they say this? there are tons of ai bros at work who think this is fine for safety critical infrastructure and they need a beat down
@eniko it was funny enough to make me switch to linux :3
@eniko Microsoft Copilot: safe if used as directed ?
@eniko See? It's working!

@eniko Funny how?

(Killing joke?)

@eniko Same thing Faux News said about themselves…
