@mitch @cstross It explains why so many people at Tower Records were dressed so oddly!
@mitch And back in 1993, all people could talk about was how time travellers went to 1972 where milk was delivered to your door and people weren't slaves to fashion.
@mitch All true, but why the hell gluten is there? Does not make any sense. It’s like saying it’s great to go back to 1900s - No border controls, no passport checks, freedom of travel, and nobody knows what Penicillin is…
@mitch @cstross There are still time travelers who choose to come to 2026, but they're basically these guys.
@mitch I was getting divorced in 1993, I don't miss it at all.
@mitch
TV programmes were being recorded at home in the '80s, let alone the '90s. Those time travellers in Tower Records presumably don't recognise what the VHS cassettes are.
@mitch and Star Trek: The Next Generation was still being made. Sigh.

@mitch
The matrix: 1999 was chosen because it was the peak of humanity

Me in 2000: what? Lol that's so silly.

Me in 2026: the machines had the right idea.

@mitch
(In 1975 I was measuring the effect of Gluten on a small proportion of small children's intestinal linings.

Upstairs was a chap separating the Alpha-Gliadin fraction which is the damaging bit IIRC.

Across the way there was a doctor taking biopsies of those linings to directly observe the effect.

I know what you mean, but ...)

@mitch Most of the concerts I went to around 1993 were probably nearer £5! And band t-shirts were £7.

Also, coeliacs knew what gluten was.
