Interesting video from Crikey on the meaning of Left and Right in Australian politics.

Crystal Andrews, Bernard Keane, and Alex Fein (RedBridge polling)

They are talking about how Gen X have a memory of life before wholesale privatisation.

Alex Fein in particular has some striking things to about how the capital class who have assets, and the gap to those who don't.

Left-Right politics in Australia is dead

YouTube

"People talk about 'decreasing trust in institutions', I'm not seeing 'decreasing trust in institutions'.

I'm seeing collapse. Complete collapse in faith that our democracy can deliver anything for ordinary people. It is a terrifying thing to watch every night. This abject hopelessness. It's not cynicism. It's not anything... this is qualitatively different from what I've seen in previous years.

Something really big needs to happen if people's faith in democracy is going to be restored."

@troberts What's really happening is the complete failure of faith in capitalism, IMO, rather than democracy. But no one dare say so.
@timrichards @troberts It'll take democracy with it though, unless we see some politicians willing to be bold enough to go against their campaign donors.

@timrichards @troberts you're not wrong there

I do worry that people don't see any other economic option, but still see it as a failure of democracy and accept the (entirely capitalist driven) tighter fist (aka authoritarian) approach as a solution

@timrichards @troberts I think this is true. I'm not sure democracy was ever real, just a theatre to make capitalism more palatable to the serfs.

@troberts It's funny she (Alex) thinks we live in a democracy.

Edit: change he->she

@Bot4Sale Your post is kinda the q.e.d. to the previous argument on complete collaps of beliefs in democracy. @troberts
