Current status of the New Year’s Day planted potato experiment. As feared, we barely had a frost last winter. These are Casablanca first earlies and will be either harvested or moved out before the tomatoes and cucumbers are planted in this greenhouse bed in a month or so’s time. #Gardening #GrowYourOwn #HomeGrown
@Broadfork Are you south England Broadfork? Don't think that would work for me in the Midlands, I had regular minus temps overnight in the greenhouse. Maybe more sheltered at home in an urban area too?

@laurenheywood I’m in Oxfordshire. We barely had a ground frost all winter. We’ve had lots of overnight temperatures down to low -°C but nothing lower than -5°C.

The greenhouse is sheltered and does benefit from some warmth from the garage wall. I have planted in aug/sept for Christmas/Jan harvest but I’ve never grown potatoes actually planted in Jan before.

I’ll keep my eye out for a dip in temperatures now and look to cover with fleece if that happens but the weather app temp forecast is ok.
