I got my girlfriend volume 1 of the Erha audiobook for her birthday and she’s listening to it now!!!

She’s the kind of reader who listens to a book multiple times and hones in on little details, which she then starts intensely analytical conversations about. 💚 I’ve thus started rereading Erha in my own defence. Rather, I’m reading the 7S official translation for the first time. For a couple of years, I’ve been trapped in the dilemma of wanting to revisit the section of the fantl that was only available as MTL when I read it, but not super wanting to reread the first 4/5 of the story before that. (I’m not much of a rereader: vita brevis, TBR longa.)

My girlfriend, looking up character portraits on the Erha fandom wiki: “So this is Shi Mei, the love interest? Why is he so… demure and sad and delicate, hrmph.”

Me: 🤐🤐🤐

Then she asked who Xia Sini was and I told her to get the hell off that page because it was full of spoilers.

Turns out that if you reread Erha from the start, you discover that every single observation Mo Ran makes after his rebirth will be flipped upside down over the course of the book. 🍿

Also turns out that I love this book a lot.

It does amuse me that 4/10 readers are like, yikes! too much dogblood, I’m out! and 1/10 are like, not enough dogblood, I’m out! (Ilu @geraineon.) I’m happy to be in the lucky 5/10.

My girlfriend has finished the Erha volume 1 audiobook and jumped immediately to volume 2 in paperwork. I am delighted!

Hearing all my girlfriend's theories as she reads the book for the first time is SO much fun!

Her: "This Ye Wangxi seems like an interesting character."
Me: "Um... yes, *he* is."

Her: "Who's Mei Hanxue again?"
Me: "Um... *he* *is* the young master of Kunlun Taxue Palace."

Me: "You do get to see Chu Wanning's childhood later on, and it gives some explanation for why he's Like That."
Girlfriend: "Okay... oh yeah, wasn't the fake Gouchen the Exalted wondering who Chu Wanning's shizun was?"
Me: "You get to meet his shizun later too."
Girlfriend: "Who IS his shizun?!"
Girlfriend: "I bet it's Gouchen the Exalted."
Me: 😂 🤐 🤫 😂
Girlfriend: "Hah! I knew it! I was right!"

So... I got home and my girlfriend immediately declared, "I hate this book! It made me cry!"

Her: "I just read the second sealing of the barrier to the ghost zone. *sniff* I hate it when main characters die!"
Me: "Oh shit, I'm so sorry I didn't warn you about Chu Wanning!"
Her: "The only thing that helped a little bit was that you already told me they're together in volume 6, so I know he comes back to life somehow..."
Me: *ignoring her clear angling for more spoilers*
Her: "Well, anyway, I just hate main character death."

Ten minutes pass.

Me: "Oh FUCK I have to warn you about the ending of this book!"

Girlfriend: "I don't get why Ye Wangxi is so angry with Song Qiutong. Did he expect her to show some kind of loyalty to him for buying her? But he seemed like such a..."
Me: "An upstanding gentleman?"
Girlfriend: "Yeah!!"

Hehehehehe.

@villainousfriend 🤣🤣🤣

What do they think about Shi Mei so far??

@mespinozart she keeps asking what his deal is and whether he's going to turn out to be secretly evil!!! 🤐 🤐
@villainousfriend honestly I didn’t suspect Shi Mei until he started acting weird, so kudos to your partner for already seeing through him 😜
@mespinozart I love reading books alongside her because sh always picks up on this kind of thing wayyyyy before me 😹
