Overnight cucumbers! 48 hours ago, this section of the garden was only dirt. 24 hours ago, suddenly seedlings. They're even taller than the photo now - growing 1-2 cm a day, which is unreal. First time veggie garden so I don't know if this is normal for cucumbers, but it sure is exciting.

There are also twice as many seedlings as 24 hours ago. These things are unstoppable. I'm already glad I got the compact kind.
@ldottxt idk if you get slugs in Texas but I always put coffee grounds around my seedlings to keep slugs away.

@RavynWitch @ldottxt Ooo my lettuce had slug problems last year and I had no idea what to do.

Coffee grounds we got lots of lmao

@MsHearthWitch my partner also uses crushed up eggshells around the base. Keeps them away, and has the bonus of adding some calcium to the soil as they compost away.
@RavynWitch we are slug-free! we DO get lots of small snails, but they leave alone anything that isn't dying
@ldottxt Cucumbers are a great crop for first timers. Just beware of one thing — at some point in the season one or more cucumbers will be hiding from you, grow enormous, and slow production on the plant. So keep an eagle eye out for these rapscallions!
