Despite all my training, I think I was honestly fundamentally unprepared for Tourian. The punishing underwater hell rooms caused me no end of grief, though I did have a really good time figuring out this shinespark. But tbh I kinda lost my mind a bit hearing the music the first time like. Damn ok
i was already a fan of the golden torizo but somehow in randomizers it's evolved into like my mortal fucking nemesis (positive). at early game power it's legit a 5 min + endurance fight like some kind of 7th saga rpg battle where you're dancing with it farming more super missiles. like the torizo mainly hits you when you dive in to replenish ammo or with your own super missiles and w/o lategame beams you can only damage by using super missiles. it's quite balanced
side note but this part of the. soul eater? i think? song my brother sent me that's playing in tourian like. it's good but i swear this reminds me heavily of a sir mix-a-lot track of all things

i felt devastated and my image was scarred is one of my favorite lines ever b/c it strikes me as such a interesting one in a boast track...
the combination of replaced incidental music and boss music means that even fights that really aren't that crazy do something fucked up to my brain. you know how i joke about kraid mastering music in his room all day. this time he wasn't fucking around. and i ruined it for him. sorry man
there's something so legitimately thrilling about this to me because. like. the randomizer is already so cool for all the crazy things it produces. but since i asked ppl to send me tracks and didn't listen to them when i put them in its like. honestly anything can come up. its so visceralllll
the struggles today were honestly so freaking interesting b/c it was like, endless struggles where i would slowly triumph over a weird tech, after many setbacks, get through a room... and discover i couldn't proceed at all in the next one LOL. but it was still fun getting better at some of these

but tragedy struck, for here i learned a terrible truth. the quicksand in maridia is annoying with high jump and gravity. but without high jump or gravity? and under the falling sand? you can't even rise. you just become stuck and you die. it's the end. sorry.

thought about trying to run back but it was hopeless. gate. and no save point accessible after the gold torizo from this side. truly an indicator that this underground realm is an accursed hell indeed
so from here i gave up and tried to figure out if i could get out of tourian. turns out "mount everest" is a hell of a fucking room to do gravityless. this place is a goddamn nightmare. when i dropped into tourian i locked myself into a trap with very few options. eventually i got annoyed and savestate stepped my way through. i had exactly one hope left. if it was impossible for me to get through brinstar, the only way out is to get a new item. i had to stake it all on this giant loop
one reason i was surprised by the tourian theme was that i thought i'd put that track elsewhere. but i'd forgotten that even tourian has two subsections in super, even if it's short. when the tileset and music transitioned i was like. honestly a bit scared like. wait is that sfx or. oh.
found the baby btw. and it's listening to kraidcore
in the end, this path leads to disaster, too. i believe this room is insurmountable without a variety of equipment. the ultimate truth appears to be that i need to explore crateria and maridia before these underground hells... the water is too dangerous...
upper maridia is so funny because the only room i can access from it is a heat room and so i'm having a fun experience where the goal is to get here with varia and finally hear the full song. for now... STORMY WEATHER~ STORMY WEATHER~
